Stage 1: Empathize
YouTube is a platform for watching videos.
It is also a place with a lot of media that doesn’t upload to other platforms.
Sometimes I want to just listen to some lecture with my phone, or let little children watch videos on my iPad, but every random touch stops the media.
So I thought that YouTube should make a button for locking the screen and protecting the video against accidental touches.
Stage 2: Define
Listening to a video during other activities is the most common use case.
Alternatively, he wants the video to keep playing even when a baby or pet touches it.
The feature is only relevant to touch screens.
Stage 3: Ideate
To the ordinary player of YouTube I added a lock icon,
a click on which locks the screen while allowing the video to keep playing,
even if someone touches the screen.
To release the lock you only need to long-press on the lock icon.
